Westerlo have parted ways with head coach Jonas De Roeck after the side lost 3-1 to Anderlecht on Friday evening. The side are currently second bottom of the Belgian Pro League, with just two wins from 16 games. Westerlo remained behind their head coach for much of the season, however after another defeat they felt that they needed to act.

De Roeck joined Westerlo in 2021, leading them back to the Belgian Pro League in his first season. He then led them to a successful 2022/2023 season, qualifying for play-off two and a chance at European football. Ultimately, they fell just short, but expectations were that the side would have another strong 2023/2024 season.

Westerlo invested heavily in the summer, bringing in a whole host of young exciting talent. However, the side has not come together as many expected and has looked far less assured than they did last season. The club hope to appoint a new head coach soon in a bid to avoid finishing in the bottom four and having to battle to avoid relegation back to the Challenger Pro League.
