West Ham United striker Michail Antonio is jetting out of the country to Dubai today to step up his rehabilitation following his car accident last December, according to the Sun.
The 34-year-old has undergone surgery on his broken leg following the auto crash, and he has visited his Hammers teammates at the training ground having been discharged from the hospital.
Antonio is currently on crutches and will continue his recovery in Dubai over the next two weeks, with his return to London pencilled in for February 20.
The West Ham star will be joining his Germany international counterpart and teammate Niclas Fullkrug in Dubai.
The summer signing is currently recovering from a hamstring injury and is hoping to return to action as soon as possible having struggled with injuries since joining the Hammers from Borussia Dortmund.
Departed West Ham technical director Tim Steidten has reportedly admitted that buying Fullkrug was a mistake, and the 31-year-old will be desperate to prove him wrong.
While the German could be back in action in the coming weeks, Antonio is not expected to return to the pitch this season.
He is out of contract at the end of the campaign, but West Ham are weighing up whether or not to extend his deal in order to cover the full recovery.
He has been tipped to play Premier League football again despite the career-threatening injuries he sustained in the crash, and the Hammers are ready to keep supporting him on his journey to full fitness given his excellent years of service with the club.
West Ham’s new head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay will be tasked with signing forwards capable of bolstering their attack in the summer, and it will be interesting to see if Antonio gets to feature in the plans of manager Graham Potter going forward.
