Sheffield United's possible asking price for goalkeeper Michael Cooper has been revealed amid interest from West Ham United and Everton.

Sheffield United would reportedly demand at least £15 million for goalkeeper Michael Cooper this summer if they were to sell him amid interest from West Ham United and Everton.

Cooper joined Sheffield United last summer from Plymouth Argyle for a fee of around £2 million, and that price certainly looks like something of a bargain after his impressive debut season at Bramall Lane.

The 25-year-old kept clean sheets in exactly half of the games he featured in for the Blades last season, but despite his side boasting the third-best defensive record in the Championship, it was not enough to earn them automatic promotion, and they suffered further heartbreak as they were beaten 2-1 by Sunderland in the play-off final at Wembley in May.

After missing out on promotion to the Premier League, United could be vulnerable to losing Cooper before the end of the transfer window, and they reportedly turned down an approach from Everton earlier in the summer, with the player believed to have been reluctant to join the Merseyside outfit, where he would have been second choice behind Jordan Pickford.

However, while the Toffees' advances were rebuffed, the Blades may have to prepare themselves for further interest in Cooper over the coming weeks as journalist Alan Nixon claimed on Sunday that West Ham United are plotting a move for their highly-rated shot-stopper.

As West Ham begin their search for a new number one, Cooper is said to have emerged as a "major target" for the London outfit, but he is far from the only goalkeeper on their radar.

The Hammers may now be setting their sights on Cooper, but according to The Star, Sheffield United have placed a price tag of £15 million on his head, and that figure "would just be the starting point before add-ons and bonuses were also included".

Cooper is said to be fully focused on helping the Blades mount another promotion challenge next season, while new head coach Ruben Selles recently stated that the goalkeeper is "definitely staying" at Bramall Lane after his absence from last week's pre-season game against Burton Albion raised concerns among supporters about his future.

Cooper is not the only one of Sheffield United's stars to attract interest from elsewhere this summer, with midfielder Gustavo Hamer believed to be on the radar of Leeds United, PSV Eindhoven and Palmeiras.

However, given that the Blades' success last season was largely based on defensive solidity rather than attacking prowess, Cooper would arguably be a bigger loss for the club, and it would be incredibly difficult for them to replace him with a goalkeeper of similar quality.

Should United receive an offer in excess of their £15 million valuation of Cooper, they may be tempted to cash in, but if they are serious about launching another automatic promotion push next season, they should not even consider selling him.
