West Ham United have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Wes Foderingham on a free transfer.

The 33-year-old left relegated Sheffield United after running down his contract, and West Ham have pounced on the chance to sign him for free.

After four years at Bramall Lane, Foderingham will begin a new phase in his career at the London Stadium after signing a two-year contract.

He is West Ham’s second signing of the summer transfer window after the arrival of Brazilian youngster Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras.

Foderingham joins West Ham as the new third-choice goalkeeper and will provide competition for Alphonse Areola and Lukasz Fabianski.

“It feels brilliant to be a Hammer,” Foderingham said (via the club’s official website).

“As soon as I heard of the interest, it was something that I was keen to get sorted and get done and I’m just delighted to be here.

“I think the club has gone from strength to strength and I think I’m joining at a very, very good time as it’s a positive time for the club.”

More additions in the pipeline

Foderingham is the club’s second summer signing, but more fresh faces are expected with Julen Lopetegui keen to bolster every area of the squad.

West Ham are already in talks to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Max Kilman, but they are reluctant to sell their captain.

Lopetegui wants to reunite with the English defender, and Tim Steidten is working around the clock to get a deal over the line.

West Ham have already had two bids rejected for Kilman. The second proposal was reportedly a player-plus-cash deal, but Wolves were not interested.

However, reports claim they will return with a third bid. Signing Kilman would be a massive coup for the club as they could use someone with his vast experience to lead the backline.

West Ham also been linked with a move for Lille striker Jonathan David, although they are unlikely to make any progress on that front with Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur also interested.
