In a recent report, Manchester Evening News revealed that West Ham United are locked in a three-way battle for Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who has grown frustrated with the lack of first-team opportunities at Old Trafford this season. However, it is understood that the Hammers could face competition from Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea in pursuit of the English custodian but might find it difficult to agree on a permanent deal for the player (via Manchester Evening News).

Henderson’s Diminishing Status At The Theatre Of Dreams

Henderson has endured a frustrating campaign with the Red Devils as he has often had to settle for playing second-fiddle to David De Gea at Old Trafford. The Whitehaven-born sensation has only featured in 12 matches for Man United this term, conceding nine goals and securing seven clean sheets in multiple competitions.

The 23-year-old needs to improve his accuracy when distributing possession from the back as he has only made 72.1% of his attempted passes in the Premier League and European football this season (stats via whoscored).

During his loan spell with Sheffield United last season, Henderson proved that he is more than good enough to play in the English top-flight week in week out. Hence, the London Stadium could be an ideal home for him to consider in the summer if David Moyes decides to launch a move for the player.

What Are The English Goalie’s Best Attributes?

Standing at 1.88m, Henderson is a commanding presence inside his penalty box and can come out of his lines to collect the loose ball when needed. He has excellent reflexes to pull off a few world-class saves for his team. Plus, the talented custodian is also not shy of putting his foot through the ball when he is being pressed by the opposition attackers. However, he needs to be more effective with his passing if he wants to succeed at the highest level.

Will Henderson Be A Good Option For The Hammers?

West Ham have currently got Łukasz Fabiański playing as their number-one keeper, while Darren Randolph has often filled in as his back-up this season. However, Henderson has the quality and potential to be an upgrade over Fabianski, who is edging closer towards the twilight years of his playing career.

At 23, the English shot-stopper will be a decent option for the East London giants in the long-run as he has got all the skillset required to become a regular keeper at the London Stadium for years to come. All in all, it makes sense for Moyes to engineer a move to bring Henderson to the English capital at the end of this season.
