West Ham have joined the list of teams ‘queuing up’ to sign Jesse Lingard on loan, though Manchester United remain ‘reluctant’ to sanction the star’s departure this month.

Lingard has found himself as an increasingly peripheral figure over the past 18 months and has not made a Premier League appearance for the Red Devils this season, starting just two games in all competitions during the current campaign.

United chose to trigger a one-year extension in the player’s contract earlier this season, though the move appears to be designed to avoid losing Lingard on a free transfer this summer with the 28-year-old not part of the club’s long-term plans.

Several sides have expressed an interest in signing the midfielder during the January transfer window, with Sheffield United and Tottenham having been linked as well as the likes of Nice and Porto.

According to talkSPORT, West Ham and former Red Devils manager David Moyes have now joined the race, though there remains a reluctance from the Old Trafford side to allow Lingard to leave this month.

The nature of the current campaign and concerning numbers of Covid-19 cases have seen the club consider their options when it comes to departures, with United reluctant to trim their squad given they remain competing on three fronts.
