West Ham United are interested in a deal to bring Ola Aina to the London Stadium in the summer transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by All Nigeria Soccer, who claim that, unless the versatile left-back agrees to sign a contract extension before the end of the current campaign, Torino will be open to offers for the 25-year-old this summer.

The report then goes on to state that West Ham, alongside the likes of reigning Ligue 1 champions LOSC Lille and Crystal Palace, are keeping a very close eye on the situation of the Nigeria international ahead of a potential swoop at the end of the season.

An earlier report by CalcioMercato revealed that, last summer, Torino were demanding a fee of around €10m (£8.5m) in order to part with the defender, however, it is not clear if the Serie A side’s asking price will have dropped any further with Aina entering the final 12 months of his contract in June.

While it would appear true that, following Aina’s £8.5m move to Italy back in 2019, the full-back’s development has slowed somewhat, the 25-year-old nevertheless proved during a season-long loan spell at Fulham last season that he has what it takes to be an influential player in a Premier League side.

Indeed, over his 31 top-flight outings for the Cottagers last time out, the £4.95m-rated defender helped his side keep seven clean sheets, as well as making an average of 1.5 interceptions, 1.2 tackles, 2.6 clearances and winning 3.7 duels – at a success rate of 51% – per game.

The £24k-per-week former England U20 international also impressed in an attacking capacity, scoring two goals, registering one assist and creating one big chance for his teammates, in addition to making an average of 0.5 key passes and taking 0.5 shots per fixture.

These returns saw the player who Cristian Ansaldi dubbed an “animal” earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.75, ranking him as Fulham’s 15th-best performer in the Premier League last term.

And, with the £40k-per-week Arthur Masuaku – who one West Ham analyst dubbed “terrible” earlier this season – looking to have a particularly uncertain future at the London Stadium, with David Moyes reportedly being more than happy to sanction the sale of the left-back in the January transfer window, the 58-year-old could finally replace the extremely inconsistent
