The Baggies finished fifth last season and reached the play-offs, but their promotion hopes were dashed by Southampton in the play-off semi-final, with the Saints winning 3-1 on aggregate.

In the intervening month, Corberan has been linked with the vacant Leicester job to replace Enzo Maresca at the King Power Stadium, after the Italian took over from Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea.

Here, Football League World takes a look at the latest news around West Brom.

The latest on Carlos Corberan's future

According to The Athletic, Carlos Corberan and Graham Potter are Leicester's preferred choices to replace Enzo Maresca, with the Foxes closing in on appointing a replacement.

However, according to the Daily Mail's Tom Collomosse, Potter, who turned down the job before Maresca was appointed, is currently the favourite for the role and could take over at the King Power.

Leicester want to bring in their next boss sooner rather than later as the start of pre-season for the 2024/25 Premier League edges ever closer. Whoever comes in is likely to face plenty of problems immediately because of the club's financial standing.

A points deduction could be coming their way, to add to the limited budget that the new boss will have.

West Bromwich could lose centre-back Cedric Kipre in the summer transfer window to Turkish outfit Trabzonspor, according to a report from Turkish outlet Sabah.

The outlet claims the club are already in talks with the 27-year-old, who is out of contract at West Brom this summer, meaning he is set to be available on a free transfer as things stand.

The Baggies confirmed in their end of season retained list that they have offered the Ivorian a new contract, but face competition to retain his services.

Celtic set Mikey Johnston price

Celtic have set a £6 million asking price for West Brom transfer target Mikey Johnston.

According to Football Insider, it will take £6 million to convince the Scottish giants to part ways with the forward on a permanent basis.

The Irishman spent the second half of last season on loan at The Hawthorns, where he proved to be a key player for Carlos Corberan's side, scoring seven goals and providing two assists in 20 appearances in all competitions to help the Baggies to fifth place after joining in January.

However, he is set to return to Parkhead for pre-season unless an agreement can be reached on a deal to keep him at the Hawthorns long-term.

Shilen Patel admits West Brom worries

West Brom chairman Shilen Patel has admitted the Baggies face a delicate balancing act between strengthening their squad this summer, while complying with Profit and Sustainability Rules.

"The summer transfer window presents us with both a challenge and an opportunity," Patel wrote in an open letter to Baggies fans on June 13.

"The challenge will be to operate within the league's financial rules from the club's current position.

"Championship clubs cannot lose more than £39m across three seasons. The club recorded an £11m loss for the 2022-23 season and will confirm another significant deficit for the 2023-24 campaign – our first without Premier League monies in 22 years.
