West Brom are interested in signing Wolves' Sasa Kalajdzic on loan.
West Brom are lining up a late loan move for Sasa Kalajdzic from bitter rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Austrian international joined the Premier League side in the summer of 2022, but his time with the Old Gold has been hindered by two cruciate knee ligament injuries, which have restricted Kalajdzic to just 13 top-flight appearances over the past three years.
However, the 28-year-old is back to full fitness now, and he featured as a substitute in Wolves’ recent games against West Ham and Everton.
But, with Wanderers completing a deal for Genk’s Tolu Arokodare, as well as retaining Jorgen Strand Larsen, there is no place for Kalajdzic at Molineux right now, and they are over the limit for non-homegrown players.
Therefore, it has been said that he will leave on loan before the deadline, and TalkSPORT reporter Alex Crook has revealed that Albion are looking to bring him in before the 7pm deadline.
He also adds that Kalajdzic’s fitness record means it would be a move that comes with ‘risk’ for the Baggies, as the target man has had three ACL injuries in his career, with one coming before he joined Wolves.
As mentioned, Wolves’ are over the limit for non-homegrown players, and Kalajdzic’s injury history means a temporary departure is what he needs at this point in his career.
From Albion’s perspective, they would be taking a chance on the former Stuttgart man as he will need time to get up to speed, and there’s a chance he can’t cope with the demands of the Championship when you consider what he has been through over the years.
But, there’s no doubt that Kalajdzic has plenty of quality, and he has demonstrated that in the past few games for Wolves.
The striker made a big impact from the bench against West Ham and Everton, with his height and technical ability meaning he is difficult for defenders to stop, and there are some Wolves fans who would’ve kept him around at the expense of other players in the squad.
With Aune Heggebo flourishing since his arrival this summer, Albion have a quality number nine, so there would be no pressure on Kalajdzic to hit the ground running.
So, it could make sense for the player and both clubs, although the rivalry means there will be a spotlight on this deal if it happens.
