On Tuesday Eintracht began their final week of pre-season training. After the session, Rafael Santos Borré spoke of his optimism and will to win.

Following more than a month of pre-season preparations, Eintracht Frankfurt are now on the home straight ahead of the new 2022/23 campaign. On Tuesday morning the Eagles were in the gym at the Deutsche Bank Park ProfiCamp, before taking to the training pitches at 15:00 CEST. Accompanied by the lively sound checks of rock group Iron Maiden, who held a concert at the stadium on Tuesday evening, the players were as focused as ever on the task at hand. Rafael Santos Borré spoke of a “very positive conclusion” in an interview with EintrachtTV. “We’ve worked effectively, formed a compact team and have bolstered the squad well,” said the Colombian, who joined Frankfurt exactly 385 days ago. “We’ve been able to boost our team spirit and we’re well prepared to achieve big things.” The 26-year-old knows that in order to do so, small steps can have a significant impact. After losing to Mannheim in the DFB Cup last year, the reigning UEFA Europa League holders face Magdeburg in the first round this year aware that “we need to do better and win our first competitive game of the season so that we can go into the Bundesliga campaign feeling good.” As such, the team’s approach is clear: “We need to go into the game with the necessary professionalism.” Eintracht’s last friendly of the summer is on Wednesday evening at fourth-tier side Astoria Walldorf. The first team will subsequently have a day off on Thursday but will return for one training session per day from Friday to Sunday. Then focus will shift to Monday evening’s cup encounter at 1. FC Magdeburg, where, as the penalty hero from Seville put it, “we simply have to win!”
