As reported by Florian Plettenberg, Werder Bremen have shown interest in signing Boavista striker Róbert Boženík.
Before Bremen entered the race to sign the Slovakian international, it had appeared that both Sevilla and Lille were in a battle to sign Boženík. It is understood that both clubs had offered the Portuguese side €5 million with additional add-ons for the services of the 24-year-old.
However, with the offers submitted, Bremen have entered the race late with an inquiry to sign the striker. It was expected that Boženík would have to make the decision out of Sevilla and Lille, but with Die Werderaner showing interest, Boavista may elect to wait for another offer.
So far this season, Boženík has scored seven goals and collected two assists in 17 Liga Portugal appearances. While offers from Sevilla and Nice may appeal to the 6′ 2″ striker, he has previously played in Germany with Fortuna Düsseldorf, scoring two goals in 21 games for the club, meaning a return to the country and a chance to play in the Bundesliga could be convincing.
As for Bremen, it has been a difficult first half of the season adjusting to life without Niclas Füllkrug. Marvin Ducksch is the only player to have registered more than five goals this campaign, and while Justin Njinmah has looked bright, further reinforcement certainly would not hinder their cause to steer clear of the relegation zone.
