At the pre-match press conference ahead of facing Werder Bremen, head coach Dino Toppmöller discussed his excitement going into the new season, personnel news and the weekend’s opponents.
Dino Toppmöller on…
…his sense of excitement going into the new season: “Everyone's really looking forward to playing Bundesliga football in front of our fans again. The lads have been very focused this week. We've just got our final training session to go now, and then we'll feel very well prepared. It’s always our aim and ambition to qualify for Europe. We’re determined to get off to a good start on Saturday so that we can get into a flow.”
…team news: “Michael Zetterer will be in goal on Saturday, and then we'll see how things develop over the coming weeks. We signed Michael because we believe in him as a goalkeeper and as a person. Kauã Santos won't be playing on Saturday, but he's still making great progress. Ellyes Skhiri isn't an option yet either, but Mario Götze and Nene Brown are vying for a return to the squad”
…Werder Bremen: “Bremen have had to deal with the upheaval of changing their coaching staff. Their style of play is similar to last season. They’ll put out a very strong team – they’re unbeaten in their last eight Bundesliga matches. Bremen may have a thinner squad now but we’re taking them very seriously; they’ll have 11 really good players on the pitch.”
…Eintracht’s approach: “It will be an open game – Bremen’s attractive and attacking playing style usually means that’s the case. If you followed SV Elversberg last season, you can see the hallmarks of [new Bremen head coach] Horst Steffen: namely, playing on the front foot. We don’t want a chaotic game. I expect my team to play with maximum intensity and to show from the very first minute that they’re determined to keep the points in Frankfurt.”
