Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor says that the FA Women’s Continental League Cup provides the club with a good opportunity to win another trophy.

The Cityzens are the second most successful team in the tournament’s history with four final appearances and three wins. Manchester City get their latest FA Women’s Continental League Cup bid underway on Wednesday evening when they face Everton at The Academy Stadium.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Manchester City boss Taylor said that the club will again be taking the competition seriously as it provides a great opportunity to win silverware.

“We respect this trophy, we have been successful in it previously” Taylor said. “When we were in it last season, we went to the quarter-finals and we were seconds away from going through and I think if we go through, we win that trophy, it is as simple as that, that is no disrespect to any of the other teams. It was going to be us or Chelsea and we were seconds away.

“We take it really seriously, even more so now, we want to win trophies. We are out of one competition already so  we need to make sure that we are really competitive and try to be as successful as we can.”

Manchester City have been drawn in a tough group with Everton, Manchester United, Leicester City and Durham with just the group winner assured of qualification. It was a similar situation for The Cityzens last season and they went on to win their group.

“We had Everton, Man United and Liverpool last year, it was three tough games, it was probably the toughest group,” Taylor said.

“This is a fairly tough group again but it is what it is, we want to play in this competition, we want to do well in this competition so we will be taking it as seriously as we possibly can do.”
