FC Barcelona got another victory to make it 6 wins in a row in the UEFA Champions League as they beat Benfica in a very difficult game last night. The Catalans chased the game for the most part but were ultimately able to come out with the full three points with a 4-5 win.
Raphinha was once again essential as he scored two vital goals on the night. However, other players also contributed to this comeback win, with Robert Lewandowski also scoring twice as he converted the two penalties that were awarded to the Blaugranes.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Polish forward was also one of the players who spoke to the media after the game. He took this opportunity to highlight the need for improvements in his team:
“Today’s match was crazy, but in the end, we won, and I think that’s the most important thing. I think three of Benfica’s goals were gifts, but it’s always better if we score one more goal than the opponent. We need to learn how to play better, both in defense and attack.”
“After 4-4, Benfica had a chance to make it 5-4, and that’s a moment where you need a bit of experience and composure. Now we can enjoy the match, and tomorrow we’ll look at what we can do better than today.”
The Pole was also happy with the fact that Barcelona will not have to play a playoff match for the Round of 16 qualification: “It’s very important that we don’t have to play in the playoff.”
Commenting on the incident that infuriated Benfica right before Raphinha scored the winning goal for Barcelona, Lewandowski said: “I was sure it wasn’t a penalty”.
Concluding, the veteran striker believed this win could prove to be quite important for the Blaugranes’ season: “We played until the end and had a chance for the goal and to win. This victory can be very important for the future of the season, but also because we can analyze what we can do better.”
There is definitely some merit in Lewandowski’s words, as despite the ultimate victory, Barcelona left a lot to be desired in this match, and they should ensure they take the lessons home to avoid the mistakes they made in this game in the future.
