We are just going to have to dust woorselves doon…

Oh well as an awful former manager of both Newcastle United and Crystal Palace would regularly say after yet another dismal defeat, “Well you know, we are just going to have to dust woorselves doon and go again”.

The very same guy was put on gardening leave after only five months into the job at Palace by chairman Simon Jordan, after Steve Bruce indicated he wanted to immediately jump ship and take up the managerial reins at Birmingham City.

It ended Palace 2 United 0 at Selhurst Park and Eddie’s boys were very poor. I felt sorry for the lads and lasses that had made the long trek to the Capital.

Oliver Glasner’s Palace ran out deserved winners against a lacklustre United.

The only other thing I’d like to add, before basically putting this result to bed, is that Sean Longstaff has developed a bad habit of going to ground too easily and theatrically. As a fellow North Shields man this is something I don’t like to see.

Our little unbeaten run is now over and all focus and attention must go towards Saturday’s game against Sheffield United at Gallowgate.

The Blades twice took the lead against the Salfords at Mould Trafford before they ran out of steam and allowed the Red Devils to steal a march on Newcastle in the chase for 6th position.

On a positive note, Callum Wilson has now made his long awaited comeback from injury and it couldn’t have have come at a better time.

There are still plenty goals left in the Toon for the remainder of this season.

Man Utd have a home game against Burnley who are still battling for survival before they face this resurgent Crystal Palace away. That’ll be just as tough for them as it was for us.

That is followed with home games against Arsenal and Newcastle in the space of three days.

I’ve got no doubt that title chasing Arsenal will batter them.

Then it is all up to us.

We should be at least on level pegging and with a much better goal difference going into the Man U game.

Elsewhere last night, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool were beaten in the Merseyside derby as their title hopes took another blow. It was lovely to see and the look on his face as Dominic Calvert-Lewin wheeled away in celebration after scoring Everton’s second killer goal, was definitely a moment to savour.

Roll on Saturday and Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United.
