Wayne Rooney lands new role after Birmingham sacking | OneFootball

Wayne Rooney's stock as a TV pundit is continuing to rise and he has been drafted in by TNT Sports for this Saturday's Premier League clash between his former sides Manchester United and Everton.

The ex-England forward was most recently a pundit for the BBC during United's 1-0 win away at Nottingham Forest in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Rooney has become a popular figure among TV companies and could be offered regular work as a pundit, with TNT Sports confirming they have snapped him up for this weekend's lunchtime kick-off at Old Trafford.

United's record goalscorer has spoken of his desire to return to management having been sacked by Birmingham City back in January after winning just two of his 15 games in charge.

Prior to that, he spent just over a year in charge of MLS side D.C. United, while his first steps into the managerial came after hanging up his boots at Derby County, leading the cash-strapped Rams from the dugout between November 2020 and June 2022.

United head into this Saturday's game having fallen 11 points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa in the Premier League table, while they could end the weekend down in seventh if results go against them.

Everton, meanwhile, sit five points clear of Luton Town above the relegation zone having been handed back four points from their initial ten-point deduction. However, Sean Dyche's side could face further penalties for another Profit & Sustainability Rules breach later on in the season.

Rooney played a combined 676 games for United and Everton during his illustrious playing career, scoring 281 goals. He left the Red Devils as their all-time leading scorer.
