Watford boss Tom Cleverley is keen to poach Nottingham Forest coach Warren Joyce, according to Alan Nixon.

The Hornets decided to appoint Cleverley permanently following a fairly promising interim spell, with the former midfielder set to lead them into the 2024/25 campaign.

High managerial turnover in recent years has arguably contributed to his appointment at Vicarage Road, with the Pozzo family gambling on the inexperienced coach, but he could be the victim of this too if he doesn't enjoy a strong campaign next term.

There's plenty for the Hornets' boss Cleverley to sort out this summer.

Not only does he need to decide who he is keen to recruit, who he wants to sell, release and offer new contracts to, but he also needs to finalise his backroom team and ensure he has the best possible team behind him during his first job as a senior manager.

Having the right figures alongside him will be incredibly important - and he is seemingly looking for an experienced coach to join him in Hertfordshire.

Alan Nixon believes Joyce is currently on Cleverley's radar, but it may take a compensation fee considering the former is already contracted to the club.

Joyce is currently Nottingham Forest's U21 chief, but he could potentially be tempted to move to a senior level and make the switch to Vicarage Road.

The two are likely to know each other from their time together at Manchester United, with Joyce previously working in the Red Devils' academy and Cleverley previously playing there.

Despite failing to impress as Wigan Athletic's manager during the 2016/17 campaign, Joyce was very successful at an academy level at Old Trafford and the Hornets' current boss is seemingly keen to bring him in.

Warren Joyce could be a very important figure at Watford if he joins

Plenty of clubs in the EFL are keen to recruit young players now, not just on loan, but permanently too so they can sell these youngsters on for a healthy profit in the future.

Joyce has plenty of experience working with younger players - and could be a great addition to the backroom team because of this.

Some of those young players who could develop under Joyce include Ryan Andrews and Yaser Asprilla, two players who have a huge amount of potential but need to be coached well if they are to continue developing.

If Asprilla and Andrews stay and can develop well, they could be sold on for huge amounts in the future, with both already part of the first team in Hertfordshire.

Ismael Kone is another young player who could benefit from Joyce's expertise.

The former United coach is also an experienced head and he could be exactly what Cleverley needs during the early stages of his time at Vicarage Road.

In terms of where Joyce would fit in, it wouldn't be a surprise if he comes in as another assistant manager alongside Damon Lathrope, who has joined the men's side permanently.

It would certainly be difficult to see him not taking up an important role.
