Rodri insists Manchester City deserved to go through to the Champions League semi-finals despite being knocked out of the competition by Real Madrid.

The reining champions suffered a penalty shoot-out defeat to Madrid after drawing the second leg 1-1, with Kevin De Bruyne’s equaliser cancelling out Rodrygo’s opener following their 3-3 first-leg draw.

But Rodri says his team did not get what they deserved.

“We have nothing to regret, that’s football sometimes,” he said.

“It shows the trickiness of the competition. It shows how difficult it is to win it, what we did last season.

“Tomorrow we have to wake up, stand up, because we have too much to play for.

“To be honest, today I saw only one team. They defended and they knew how to suffer and we know how tough Real Madrid is.

“But, in my opinion, we should go through, in terms of chances and everything. It’s the trickiness of the competition. They know how to play, congratulations to them.”
