Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries was in Manchester United’s plans until January, according to Gazzetta dello Sport (page 10).

The Red Devils have been tipped to sign a new right-back during the summer transfer window to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Wan-Bissaka’s current deal expires in 2025 and he could be offloaded for a reasonable fee if no progress is made over a new long-term contract.

Dumfries has been mentioned as a top target for the past few years, but Gazzetta dello Sport claim that United are no longer sending signals for the Dutchman.

INEOS may have influenced the decision. Dumfries is already 28 years old and would only be a stop-gap signing for the next couple of seasons.

The new management under Sir Jim Ratcliffe may want a long-term signing.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong would be an ideal recruit. He has made 24 goal contributions this term and can be signed for just €40 million due to a release clause.

United will need to convince Frimpong about moving and must do so before the 2024 European Championship.

The 23-year-old’s buy-out clause expires before the start of the tournament in Germany.
