Mikel Arteta has vowed that Arsenal will win the Premier League again after coming up short to Manchester City for a second consecutive season.

The Gunners beat Everton 2-1 at the Emirates but it was not enough to take home the trophy, with Manchester City’s 3-1 victory over West Ham confirming a fourth Premier League title in a row.

But Arteta says he is proud of what his players have achieved this season and has backed them to win the title if they continue on this trajectory.

“If we do what we have to do, we’re going to be closer,” he said.

“And in the end we will win it. When, I don’t know, but if we keep knocking and being that close, at the end it will happen.

“We were there and they (Man City) took it away from us. It is the second season, so there is only one way to do it. We have to be more determined, more ambitious, we need to have a lot of courage and push every limit we have because that’s the next step.

“Since December, we’ve been on an incredible journey. Every performance has been at the highest level we have seen and it still wasn’t enough.

“This is the level. Today, some mixed emotions, to really be proud of those players and the staff, they’ve done an incredible job.

“They have pushed every margin and every limit we could find to try to win this Premier League and unfortunately we were a bit short and we could not deliver the big prize that we wanted.

“You can feel that they are desperate for it.”
