Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Vitor Pereira has raved about Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Larsen was the star of the show for Wolves as they beat Southampton 2-1 away from home at St. Mary’s Stadium in the Premier League in front of 30,950 spectators.

The 25-year-old striker, who joined Wolves on loan from Spanish club Celta de Vigo in the summer of 2024, scored both goals for the visiting team.

The Norway international striker found the back of the net first in the 19th minute with a header past Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Larsen made it 2-0 to Wolves just two minutes into the second half with a low drive into the bottom corner.

The win means that Wolves, who want to sign Everton defender Michael Keane in the summer transfer window, are now 17th in the Premier League table with 26 points from 29 matches.

The Wanderers are nine points above the bottom three and now look likely to retain their Premier League status for next season.

After the match, Wolves boss Pereira spoke highly of Larsen and outlined how he affected the match besides scoring a brace.

Pereira told BBC Sport about Larsen: “[Jorgen] Strand Larsen was fantastic, not only with his two goals but with the way he helped the team. Today he felt more confident. I think he was fantastic, and he deserves it.”

View: Wolves will not get relegated from the Premier League

Wolves have a very good team, and it is a surprise that they are in the situation that they find themselves in.

The Wanderers now need to lose three Premier League games and Ipswich Town and/or Leicester City to win three to catch up to them.

That is unlikely to happen.

Ipswich have won just three Premier League games all season, while Leicester have emerged victorious in four league matches this campaign.

Wolves are also in decent form at the moment. They have won three of their last six Premier League games.
