Vitinha says emotional goodbye to Marseille teammates ahead of Genoa move

Vitinha’s (23) difficult spell at Olympique de Marseille looks to be coming to an end. The club-record signing said an emotional goodbye to his teammates ahead of a loan move to Genoa, according to RMC Sport.

The Portuguese forward arrived for a club-record fee from Braga last January, however, the €32m price tag has looked to weigh heavily on Vitinha, who has never lived up to expectations with OM. He has just six goals for the club, including four this year, and his spell at Marseille reached its nadir when he missed an open-net in injury time against AS Monaco at the weekend. Had he have found the back of the net in what was ultimately the final kick of the game, and perhaps Vitinha’s final touch in a Marseille shirt, he would have gifted his side victory, but it wasn’t to be.

Genoa are on the verge of concluding a deal to sign Vitinha on loan. The move will include a purchase option worth €25m, according to RMC Sport. Before travelling to Genoa, where he is expected to arrive this evening, Vitinha said goodbye to his OM teammates.

The former Braga striker is a popular figure in the dressing room and he was reportedly “very emotional” as he emptied his locker and bid farewell to his teammates.
