Vinicius Junior wrote his name into Real Madrid legend on Saturday night, scoring the only goal as Los Blancos defeated Liverpool in the Champions League final.
An estimated 20,000 Real fans inside the Stade de France went wild as the 21-year-old Brazilian winger found the net just before the hour mark, diverting a Federico Valverde cross beyond a despairing Alisson at the far post.
It was to be the goal that secured a 14th European Cup for Real. It’s fair to say they don’t come any more crucial.
As passionately as the Madrid fans in the stands reacted to the goal, the response of the commentator for Spanish broadcaster Movistar absolutely lost his mind.
The broadcaster seemingly knew something special was on the horizon. The excitement in his voice grew as Valverde rampaged down Liverpool left in the moments before the goal. When the ball hit the back of the net, though, he picked the volume up several notches.
The customary elongated bellow of “Gooooooooooooooool’ was here in all its glory, followed by an even bigger cry of ‘Viiiinnnnnnniiiiii’ in tribute to the goalscorer.
This guy was having the time of his life – and has a serious set of lungs on him. You can check it out below.
Barely pausing for breath for over a minute, it’s not until the final stages of the clip that the commentator’s partner manages to get a word in – and even then he didn’t have much of a chance to get his point across.
Members of the media are supposed to stay impartial to the action they are covering, but there’s no mistaking how badly this announcing team wanted the trophy to come back to the Bernabeu.
The explosion of joy in his voice as he belted out the name of Real’s goalscorer for a full eight seconds was just pure gold.
Somehow, we doubt that we’d have seen quite the same energy if Liverpool had managed to snag a late equaliser.
