Earlier today, Andre Villas-Boas partook in a press conference to commemorate his new position as FC Porto’s president, and whilst he did not mention the future of Sergio Conceicao – who looks likely to join AC Milan – he offered some insight into the future of Porto, that could shine a light on the situation.

Over the past week, Milan’s managerial landscape has shifted massively, but also by not much, in the sense that Julen Lopetegui seemed the favourite to be entrusted with taking the reigns from Stefano Pioli, but eventually did not get the job, and now Sergio Conceicao seems likely to take that role. However, we are still no closer to knowing the next Rossoneri manager.

The signs point towards Conceicao, though. Villas-Boas is reported to have a meeting with the Portuguese manager, and it is unknown if that has taken place yet, but the belief is that it will be made known that he intends to move on.

In his press conference, Villas-Boas did not cover the topic but mentioned his plan for the future of the club, and his words have been relayed by Portuguese outlet Record.

“Being a Portista is a state of soul and it is in this spirit that we meet here today,” he said.

“Today we are starting a new era in the history of our club. An era that will have my commitment, and of all those who make up my team, to raise the good name of FC Porto, backed by the sense of demand of all Portistas and respecting the importance of their trophy cabinet.

“In this constantly changing world, rapid adaptability and response are required. FC Porto is in a very sensitive phase of its future sustainability.

“The path of our recovery will be long, but this is a greater responsibility that we face with the strength that is the mark of the Portistas. The future is a window of opportunities and sustained growth where value creation will have to be maximised.

“We have been experiencing a lively electoral cycle for the past few days, dominated by the vitality and desire of the partners to bring about a historic change in the direction of FC Porto.

“In this desire, we know that three fundamental pillars remain that will force this new direction to rise to the occasion of the trust placed in us:

“The first, that of an FC Porto for members, respectful of its origins, representative of the emotion and love of each one for this institution.

“The second, that of an FC; Porto winner, indomitable, immortal, feared by its opponents, which plays in every field and in every modality to win;

“The third, is that of a modern, bold, organised, structured, transparent and financially sustainable.

“We are ready and we have a clear vision and a defined project for the club.”
