The search for a replacement for Pau López (29) has been far from smooth for Olympique de Marseille. Marseille have cast a wide net for their next goalkeeper with López set to depart for Como 1907 as soon as the club have caught their target. According to La Provence, Marseille believed they had done exactly that with Álvaro Valles (26).

Marseille had a bid of just below €10 million accepted by Las Palmas for the Spanish goalkeeper. However, they could never convince Valles to join the project. The Spaniard had set his heart on a return to his formative club Real Bets, and could not be persuaded otherwise.

This has led Les Phocéens back to an earlier option, Filip Jörgensen (22). The Danish goalkeeper is reportedly keen on a move to Marseille. However, the French side are having far more trouble convincing Villarreal to accept their offer. The Spanish club have set an asking price of €20 million, an amount Marseille are unwilling to meet.

Some sources at the club have allegedly told La Provence that the deal is at an impasse, while others have suggested that negotiations are still ongoing. However, while this continues, Marseille persist in widening their net.
