La Liga outfit Villarreal have on Tuesday announced a permanent departure from the club’s squad.

The player to have sealed an exit from La Cerámica? Ben Brereton Díaz.

Frontman Brereton Díaz, for his part, only put pen to paper on terms with Villarreal in the summer of 2023, following the expiration of his contract with Blackburn Rovers.

Just 12 months on, half of which was spent back on loan in England with Sheffield United, though, the Chilean international has brought the Yellow Submarine chapter of his career to a close.

As per a statement across the club’s website and social media platforms:

‘Villarreal CF and Southampton FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Ben Brereton Díaz. The Chilean striker ends his spell with the Yellow Submarine and heads to the Premier League.’

And swiftly following Brereton Díaz in swapping Villarreal for English football will be another, altogether more high-profile member of Marcelino’s squad.

This comes as Filip Jørgensen continues to inch towards a move to Premier League giants Chelsea.

As revealed by transfer insider Fabrizio Romano:

‘Filip Jørgensen has completed [the] main part of [his] medical tests as [a] Chelsea player in the US.’

A long-term contract is awaiting shot-stopper Jørgensen at Stamford Bridge, with official confirmation regarding the transfer’s completion expected before the week is out.
