Villarreal have been on a massive upward trajectory in 2024, and they were one of the form teams in La Liga over the final weeks of last season. Things started to click under manager Marcelino Garcia Toral, and a key reason for that was the form of Alexander Sorloth, who narrowly missed out on the Pichichi Trophy.

Sorloth netted 23 goals in La Liga, finished agonisingly behind Girona’s Artem Dovbyk (24). Villarreal will hope that he continues in good form for next season, as they target a return to the European places. However, there is a chance that he is not at the Ceramica at all, with a summer transfer possible.

Atletico Madrid were linked with Sorloth a few weeks ago, but it is now Roma that look most likely to sign him. According to Relevo, initial talks have already taken place between Villarreal and the Serie A giants, who are currently unwilling to reach the €35m asking price set for the Norwegian striker.

Villarreal are expected to make one big sale this summer, and Sorloth is a candidate. A move to Roma is possible, with negotiations expected to continue over the coming weeks.
