Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Manchester United lacked quality in key areas to beat Chelsea as they again failed to score against a ‘top six’ side in the Premier League.
United failed to close the gap to Manchester City in the league to ten points with the goalless draw after creating few chances at Stamford Bridge.
But Solskjaer will feel aggrieved after the Reds were denied a first-half penalty by referee Stuart Atwell following Callum Hudson-Odoi’s handball in the area.
Atwell was recommended to go to his pitch side monitor but decided against awarding a spot-kick despite Hudson-Odoi’s hand being in an unnatural position.
Solskjaer was pleased with United’s defensive discipline but named the issue that is becoming all too predictable in the big fixtures.
“We’re not scoring enough goals, that’s for sure,” he said in his post-match press conference.
The Reds are the top scorers in the league but their lack of belief against the league’s elite sides is becoming a growing concern.
As per Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst, United haven’t scored a goal from open play in over eight hours against Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal.
Solskjaer added that United could have had the three points if Atwell had given the first-half penalty, as he would have had full faith in Bruno Fernandes scoring from 12 yards.
