Chelsea disappointed with Palace draw

Eberi Eze blasts one at the wall.

“It was not the result we wanted, we wanted to start with a win,” Sanchez said.

“But I think the boys played well. We conceded a couple of chances where I think we could have been a bit stronger in the 50/50s, but I think the boys created the chances. It’s fine margins… we believe we should have scored a couple, but at the end of the day it’s football. We take the clean sheet and we move on to the next one.”

He also praised the way that Trevoh Chalobah and Josh Acheampong had adapted to being the centre back pairing at short notice after a spate of injuries in the middle.

Chelsea didn’t do enough – Sanchez is wrong

We’d have to disagree – the team really didn’t create enough chances. The moments they had weren’t really built from team play either, just from moments where a ball broke or dropped to a player in Blue.

There needs to be far more combination play, far more incisive possession and far more intent on the ball if we want to get anywhere this season.

In fact, most people would argue Chelsea were more lucky to not lose this game than they were unlucky to not win it. Sanchez was at fault when Eberi Eze’s shot flew past him, and was lucky to see it ruled out. The away team had the better of the chances in reality.

Still, we expected a slow start from the Blues
