Just halfway into the first half of the first home game of the new season for Barcelona, and Lamine Yamal is stepping up in a big way.

The 17-year-old has enjoyed a terrific summer during which he helped Spain win the UEFA Euro 2024 and started the new campaign on a strong note, assisting a goal against Valencia in the opening game.

Building on that, the La Masia sensation scored a stunning goal today against Athletic Club at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Montjuic.

Indeed, just 23 minutes into the game, Yamal found the back of the net with a curling effort from outside the box after a loose ball fell to him to give Barcelona the 1-0 lead.

The youngster is already making a habit of scoring special goals in his fledgeling career and today’s strike was another one in that list.

It was such a sweet strike from the young prodigy that Barcelona manager Hansi Flick jumped off his seat and ran out to celebrate the goal.

The manager was full of praise for the youngster coming into the game and Yamal has repaid the faith with an important and special goal against a tricky opponent.

Having found the back of the net, Yamal wheeled away in joy before he pulled off his dancing celebrations in what is becoming a regular sight.

Accompanied by his teammate Alejandro Balde, the 17-year-old wonderkid danced in front of the fans, who would have liked to see Nico Williams as part of that celebration too, but the winger opted to continue with Athletic Club despite Barcelona’s interest.

Athletic Club did manage to equalise in the 42nd minute through a penalty goal from Oihan Sancet.
