Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has put speculation over Naby Keita’s future at the club to bed by claiming that his long-term future is at Anfield.

Klopp says that, from his point of view at least, Keita’s long-term future remains at Liverpool despite reports of a potential summer transfer away from the club. Football Insider reported last month that Liverpool are considering whether or not to cash in on the midfielder at the end of the season, with Leicester said to be looking at Keita as a possible target.

The same article claimed Liverpool value Keita at £30m, almost three years on from his £52.5m transfer from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in 2018.

Klopp explains that it is not easy for him to give Keita chances in the team because he does not want to be constantly disrupting his XI. The German believes that he needs a solid foundation within his team to build from and that injuries have caused that to become even harder this season, leading to fewer opportunities for Keita and other players on the fringes of the first-team.

This has put any talk of Keita leaving the club, potentially to join Leicester, to bed and reiterated Klopp’s belief that Keita can still be an important player for Liverpool in the future.

Speaking in his latest press conference, as relayed by Anfield Watch, Klopp opened up on Keita’s situation at the club going forward.
