Manchester United have the chance to end their six-year wait for silverware as they will be making the trip to Wembley later this month to face Newcastle United in the final of the Carabao Cup.

United secured their passage into the final game after a 5-0 aggregate win over Nottingham Forest, with Newcastle winning both of their semi-final legs against Southampton.

Bruno Fernandes was the star of the show at Old Trafford this evening as he helped United to their 2-0 win over Steve Cooper’s men and the Portugal international has now commented on making it to another final.

Speaking after the game, Fernandes spoke about the upcoming final at the end of this month being only his second in Red, having lost the Europa League final in 2021.

“Obviously, really good,” Fernandes told Football Daily, as seen above.

“For me, it’s been three years at the club. We reached one final and unfortunately, we didn’t win that one but now we have another chance. But before that, we have a lot of games coming so we have to be prepared for that.”

Fernandes’ comments were echoed by team-mate Luke Shaw, who insisted that getting to a final is pointless if you don’t lift the trophy at the end of it all.

“Of course, it’s extremely pleasing,” he told Football Daily on reaching the final.

“But I think there’s no point in going to a final if we don’t win it. It’s a massive opportunity for us, it’s where we want to be, playing in big games, big finals, getting this club back to where it should be.

“Like I said, that’s challenging for trophies. We’ve got a big one against Newcastle. They’re an extremely good team and it’s going to be a very tough game but it’s a big moment for us in where we want to go.”
