Sky Germany reports that VfB Stuttgart midfielder and captain Atakan Karazor has chosen to represent Turkey at international level.
The Essen-born midfielder will honour the country of his parents despite Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann making contact with Karazor over potentially being called up to the German national team.
The 27-year-old has become a key player under Sebastian Hoeneß at Stuttgart over the past season and a half making 33 appearances in the league last season and working in tandem with Angelo Stiller. Karazor joined Stuttgart in 2019 from Holstein Kiel when VfB were in the 2.Bundesliga
However, compared to the current crop of midfielders available to Nagelsmann, Karazor does not really offer anything that could make the team better or more dynamic, especially with young players such as Aleksandar Pavlovic and Stuttgart teammate Stiller establishing themselves.
Karazor, although older, follows in the footsteps of Can Uzun and Kenan Yildiz who both chose to represent Turkey over Germany in recent seasons.
