Muslic has spoken out on staying on at Argyle next season, and he's appeared to call out the hierarchy for more backing...
Plymouth Argyle manager Miron Muslic has addressed questions over his future at Home Park, where he has appeared to call for additions to backroom staff if he is to remain in charge.
The Bosnia-born coach arrived at the Pilgrims back in January as somewhat of a surprise appointment, given his lack of notoriety on British shores, but in his near four months in charge, he's turned doubters into believers.
That is despite Plymouth already effectively being relegated from the Championship before the final day of the 2024-25 season due to their goal difference, but Muslic has guided the club to some massive wins in both the league and the FA Cup, which sought to right the wrongs of Wayne Rooney's time in charge and has also instilled some optimism back into the club.
Despite those optimistic feelings under Muslic's management, it appears that there could be trouble brewing.
In the build-up to the final match of the season at home to already promoted Leeds United, Muslic was asked as to whether he would be the Plymouth manager going into next season, but his response suggested that chairman Simon Hallett needs to make some additions behind the scenes at the club, including that of a new sporting director, for the 42-year-old to be fully on board with taking the club back to the Championship.
"This is still a hard question for me, not because of the lack of commitment or conviction to Argyle," Muslic told PlymouthLive.
I'm still here without a sporting director, I'm still here without a recruitment department. That makes a job for a head coach very, very difficult. That makes success, regardless of the competition, almost impossible.
"So I would love to answer this questions and to have clarity for my point of view because I have to lead the staff, I have to lead this organisation but I need also pillows.
"I truly believe in every strong organisation, regardless of the competition - Premier League, Championship, League One, League Two, you need a triangle of a sporting director, recruitment and head coach.
"I'm alone for four months so this are the questions I need answers."
Muslic has seemingly put the ball in Plymouth and Hallett's court as he's made it very clear what he needs in terms of backroom staff and a sporting director appointed - now it's time for him to act.
It's hard to argue that Muslic has done nothing but good things for Argyle - yes, there has been some poor results, such as 3-0 defeats to Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea, as well as the 5-0 home drubbing by Burnley that was marred by Morgan Whittaker not playing, but he's also picked up seven league wins in 20 matches, which is respectable for a team with one of the smallest budgets in the league.
The FA Cup win over Liverpool will also go down in Plymouth folklore, and Muslic's interviews, team talks and charisma has made him a very likeable character to neutral fans too, so you can only imagine that Championship clubs - and perhaps teams overseas too - will have their eyes on the Bosnian-Austrian's situation at Home Park.
