Former Real Madrid and Ajax star Rafael Van der Vaart has launched a surprising attack on Germany and Chelsea striker Timo Werner.

Werner has struggled to live up to his price tag since singing from RB Leipzig in the summer, and many fans and pundits have criticised his output.

Werner has five goals in 29 Premier League appearances this term.

"I would always play [Hakim] Ziyech because he is the best," he said regarding Chelsea's attacking options, as reported by Sport Witness.

"Ziyech comes inside and also gives the cross, just like [Mason] Mount. [Olivier] Giroud needs that.

"He [Werner] is super-fast, and that might be nice in an away game when you're under pressure, but it's just putting your head down and running around.

"Werner is really a blind horse. He has already proven that in Germany."
