Al Nassr’s interest in Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde has generated considerable discussion across the transfer market, as the Saudi club continues to seek high-profile signings. The links are unsurprising given Al Nassr’s recent business model—one that has already seen Cristiano Ronaldo headline their roster and helped draw global attention to the Saudi Pro League.
Valverde stands out not only for his ability but also for his profile—a 27-year-old central midfielder with a reputation for tactical discipline, work rate and versatility. The Uruguayan international ended the 2024/2025 La Liga season with 37 appearances, two goals and seven assists. These numbers reflect consistent involvement, although his main value to Real Madrid goes beyond statistics. The club sees in Valverde a future leader on and off the pitch, with his November 2023 contract extension until 2029 widely interpreted as a signal of their long-term intentions.
The numbers attached to Valverde’s deal tell their own story. His market value sits at €130 million, but a release clause of €1 billion effectively acts as a deterrent for any suitors. Valverde’s recent contract also underlines his status at the Bernabéu, where manager Carlo Ancelotti relies on him for structure in midfield and transitions between defence and attack. Real Madrid have positioned Valverde as a central figure in their vision for the coming years.
Al Nassr’s financial capability should not be underestimated, especially after landing Ronaldo and offering one of the biggest contracts in world football. The club has demonstrated that it is willing to invest substantially, and discussions around potential arrivals such as Antonio Rudiger and Gabriel Magalhães show no lack of ambition. Their interest in Valverde, however, presents a different level of challenge.
Valverde has spoken about the rapid growth of the Saudi league, attributing some of its momentum to Ronaldo’s presence. He has also referenced his previous close call with a transfer to England before recommitting to Madrid, suggesting an awareness of his value and options. Still, Real Madrid’s current situation offers little incentive to sell, especially amid plans for Valverde to eventually take on a leadership role.
While Al Nassr continues to explore the European market for marquee names, the practical obstacles in pursuing Valverde remain substantial. His contract, valuation and Real Madrid’s clear intent to retain him create a formidable set of barriers for any transfer attempt, regardless of Al Nassr’s willingness to make a significant offer.
