Gennaro Gattuso is one of the most intimidating players in football history.

Both revered and feared for his combative style that channeled crunching tackles and an indefatigable work rate, Gattuso certainly made up for what he might have lacked in the technical department with pure blood, sweat and tears.

If you were lining up in midfield against Gattuso during his AC Milan prime then you could rest assured that you were in for one of the toughest 90 minutes of your career.

Gattuso: One of football's most fearsome figures

As such, you can imagine that Gattuso must be a pretty fierce customer in the dressing room, too, now that he's swapped taking to the field for dictating matters from the side of it.

The 44-year-old has enjoyed a pretty strong coaching career so far having recently taken Napoli to Coppa Italia glory, while also having spent 83 games at the helm of his beloved AC Milan.

Now, Gattuso finds himself in the technical area of Spanish giants Valencia, who he has hitherto lifted to fifth in La Liga with a mixed record of four wins, one draw and three defeats.

Diakhaby's eventful night vs Osasuna

Nevertheless, one of those four triumphs came as recently as Friday night as Valencia won 2-1 at Osasuna courtesy of goals from Justin Kluivert and Mouctar Diakhaby.

And while on paper that sounds like a fabulous evening for Diakhaby by way of scoring the winning goal, it's fair to say that things weren't entirely plain sailing for the 25-year-old at the El Sadar Stadium.

That's because the Guinea defender didn't just find the back of the net, but he also found himself taking an early bath as he was sent off for a second yellow card in the 89th minute.

Why was Diakhaby sent off on the bench?

Only, the remarkable thing is that Diakhaby was actually sitting on the bench at the time, having already been substituted in a stormy match that also saw Osasuna's Unai Garcia and Ruben Pena dismissed.

According to Goal, Diakhaby was apparently slapped with a red card for using inappropriate language towards the referee.

However, even more extraordinary than the strange circumstances under which Valencia's match-winner was sent packing was the reaction of his own manager, Gattuso, just seconds later.

Gattuso rages at Diakhaby's red card

True to the very nature that we described earlier, it should come as no surprise to learn that the Italian was absolutely raging with his player for picking up such an avoidable sending off.

Going from zero to 100 in the blink of an eye, Gattuso went from semi-politely pleading with the referee to immediately turning around in a rage and thumping a Powerade bucket with his boot.

Follow that up with tense scenes that appear to show Gattuso staring at his player in a sense of disbelief and you get truly remarkable scenes that you can check out for yourself down below:

You do not get on the wrong side of Gattuso, that's for sure.

Diakhaby might have scored the winner on the night, but you can rest assured that he would have been given an earful in the dressing room if the tension on the touchline is anything to go by.

Balague explains why Diakhaby was initially subbed

And to make matters worse, Spanish football expert Guillem Balagué explained on Optus Sport that the reason for Diakhaby being subbed off in the first place was because he'd picked up a yellow card.

"He [Gattuso] does, first, his job, which is trying to intimidate the referee so he [Diakhaby] doesn't get a second yellow," Balague explained.

"But he knows he's going to get a second yellow, his player Diakhaby, who he just replaced because he got a yellow five minutes earlier and he thinks: 'Oh, let's get him out of there,' to get away from any possibility of getting sent off and he goes and gets sent off.

"The frustration is huge because Diakhaby has shown to be a very important player to Valencia this season in the way that he defends, good attitude et cetera, but yeah, I guess he [Gattuso] could have just left this kind of pep talk to later."
