Valencia star Hugo Duro on Saturday secured for himself a peculiar piece of Spanish football history.
As much came en route to Los Che’s downing of Real Betis.
Rubén Baraja’s troops marked their post-international break return to action a short time ago, welcoming Betis to Mestalla with sights on just a 2nd victory of the La Liga campaign.
And, when all was said and done, this is precisely what Valencia managed, finding their attacking verve en route to an eventual 4-2 triumph.
Playing a key role in as much was the aforementioned Hugo Duro, who, on his return to the pitch following a spell on the sidelines, notched a brace as well as an assist.
Interestingly, though, Duro was also on target at the wrong end, drawing Betis level during the first-half courtesy of an own goal.
And, owing to as much, the frontman made history.
As revealed by statisticians Opta:
‘Hugo Duro is the first player to be involved in three goals in a LaLiga match, scoring and assisting, and to score in his own goal in the 21st century.’
