Eintracht Frankfurt got off to a flying start in the new Bundesliga season, as Dino Toppmöller's side secured a comfortable 4-1 home win over Werder Bremen.

In his Bundesliga debut for Eintracht, Jonathan Burkardt came close to opening the scoring within minutes, but his effort from a corner rattled the post.

The home side maintained the pressure and were rewarded in the 21st minute, when Can Uzun exploited too much space at the edge of the area and smashed the ball into the back of the net.

Just three minutes later, Uzun was involved again, setting up Jean-Matteo Bahoya, who nodded past Mio Backhaus on his Werder debut.

At the other end, Michael Zetterer made his Eintracht debut after joining from Werder earlier this week and was rarely tested in the opening 45 minutes. The Green-Whites did come close to pulling one back just before halftime when Marco Friedl got a touch to Marco Grüll's cross and hit the post - but the offside flag was raised.

Things went from bad to worse for Werder just after the break when Uzun set up Bahoya, whose lifted finish beat Backhaus to make it 3-0.

Werder responded instantly, however, as Justin Njinmah gave them a glimmer of hope. After a couple of stepovers, he cut inside and smashed the ball past his former teammate Zetterer in the Eintracht net.

However, Frankfurt effectively sealed the game in the 70th minute. Fares Chaibi drove forward on the counter and found second-half substitute Ansgar Knauff, who made no mistake in slotting the ball past Backhaus to make it 4-1.
