Eintracht Frankfurt have officially confirmed the capture of SV Werder Bremen keeper Michael Zetterer. The 30-year-old arrives in the RheinMain metropolis on a €5m transfer from his previous Bundesliga outfit and signs a new contract valid until 2029. Longtime Eintracht keeper Kevin Trapp’s transfer to Paris FC was officially confirmed late last night.
Zetterer will receive the chance to play Champions League football with Eintracht whilst serving as a placeholder for SGE future keeper Kaua Santos. Bremen, meanwhile, have made clear that they plan to turn to their young goalkeeping prospect Mio Backhaus immediately.
“In Michael Zetterer, we are gaining a strong goalkeeper who can play at a high level,” Eintracht board-member-for-sport Markus Krösche noted a club statement. “He proved in Bremen that he is an above-average goalkeeper. With his ambitions and mentality, he is a perfect fit for us in Frankfurt.”
“The fact that we already have a high-quality goalkeeper in Mio Backhaus is another reason why we accepted the transfer of ‘Zetti’,” Bremen personnel boss Peter Niemeyer added. “After more than ten years at SV Werder, an opportunity has arisen for ‘Zetti’ that also involves participation in the Champions League.“
