FC Utrecht are committed to retaining Sébastien Haller for a longer period, sources have told VoetbalPrimeur. The Ivory Coast international was loaned from Borussia Dortmund last winter and has made a good impression in the Domstad since then.
Behind the scenes, Utrecht are working hard on a package to keep the experienced striker at the club next season. Haller is still contracted in Germany until the summer of 2026, but Dortmund seem keen to cooperate in an early departure.
Utrecht now has a prospective multi-year contract ready for the 30-year-old attacker. It is clear that some financial flexibility is needed from all parties – including Haller himself. According to sources close to the club, the striker is positive about this.
After his temporary return to FC Utrecht – the club where he previously burst onto the wider European conscience between 2015 and 2017 – Haller scored six goals in 18 official matches. In the Eredivisie, that was four in 16 matches.
The crowd favourite left a clear mark on Utrecht’s attacking game with his experience and physical presence and would be a great addition for next term if the side are looking to beat 2024-25’s fourth-placed finish.
