The United States rounded off their Women’s World Cup preparations with a 2-0 win over Wales.
Scorers: Rodman 76′, 87′
The visitors managed to weather the storm during the opening 45 minutes against the reigning world champions in San Jose.
Vlatko Andonovski replaced Alex Morgan with Trinity Rodman at the interval in hopes of engineering a breakthrough.
Their best opening saw Kayleigh Green produce a timely goal-line clearance to deny a likely opener from Alana Cook’s header.
Huerta forced a good safe from Olivia Clark just minutes later before Hannah Cain issued a Wales rebuttal by firing into the side netting.
But Rodman finally broke the deadlock in the game’s final quarter by sweeping home from Sofia Smith’s cutback to the far post on a counterattack.
A second followed for the Washington Spirit forward just three minutes from time with a stunning curling strike from the edge of the penalty area.
The World Cup holders begin the defence of their crown against Vietnam in Auckland on 22 July.
