USWNT defeat Brazil to win fifth Olympic gold medal | OneFootball

PARIS – The United States won 1-0 against Brazil in the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Final at Paris 2024 to win its fifth gold medal on Sunday at the Parc des Princes in Paris, France.

A rematch of the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup Final last March yielded the same result at the Summer Olympics, with the U.S. women’s national team winning by the minimal difference.

This was the third time these two teams shared the pitch in an Olympic Final. The USWNT has come out on top every time to win the gold. In this year’s tournament, they did it with a perfect record, not losing any of their matches played.

The USWNT’s attacking trio of Sophia Smith, Mallory Swanson, and Trinity Rodman was off to a high-energy start with early chances to disrupt the game and set the tone of the North American phase through the game.

Swanson had her first look towards goal in the 26’, but was denied by the Brazilian goalkeeper Lorena.

U.S. goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher made herself present in the 45 '+2’, when she stopped a shot from Gabi Portilho, as both teams went scoreless into halftime.

Swanson broke the deadlock in the 57’, dribbling into the box after meeting a perfectly weighted pass from midfield by Korbin Albert, to strike a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner for what would be the winning goal.

Brazil continued to attack until the final minutes of the game, searching for the draw, as Adriana tried a header in the box in the 94’, but Naeher once again stepped up for the U.S. to preserve the clean sheet.

With the result, the Concacaf nation adds to its decorated history at the Olympics by winning gold for a record fifth time.
