MIAMI – The 2025 Concacaf U-17 Men’s Qualifiers kicked off with six matches on Friday to begin the quest to find the eight Concacaf representatives at the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Curaçao and Turks and Caicos Islands won their encounters to lead the race in Group A. The British Virgin Islands started in first place of Group B. Belize and Nicaragua each earned big wins to start first and second, respectively, in Group C.
Juban Uriarte had a four-goal performance for Nicaragua and was one of the standout players of the day. Jerremy Ortela also stood out with three goal creations for Curaçao.
Canada, (Group A), Costa Rica (Group B), and Mexico (Group C), were idle for the opening matchday and will kick off their campaigns on Sunday when the action resumes in the first three groups.
Group A
Anguilla 0, Turks and Caicos Islands 3
Turks and Caicos Islands won 3-nil against Anguilla in Group A at the National Sports Centre in Devonshire Parish, Bermuda.
Wepsdel Saintilus opened the scoring in the 2’ with a powerful header to capitalize on a corner kick opportunity for Turks and Caicos Islands.
Schuyler Selver extended the lead in the 24’ with a right-footed finish inside the box. Selver secured his brace in the 36’, connecting on a forward header from Idelin Gardiner.
Bermuda 1, Curaçao 6
Curaçao won 6-1 against Bermuda in Group A at the National Sports Centre in Devonshire Parish, Bermuda.
Jerremy Ortela shined on the day with three assists, the first coming in the 8’ to cause an own goal from Sami Carolo.
Ortela struck the ball with the outside of his foot to set up D'shawn Anastacia for the second goal in the 17’.
Dayvi Busby made it three for Curaçao in the 47’ with a header at the near post to convert on a corner kick attempt. Kyano Penso struck the delivery on the set piece.
Busby earned his brace in the 62’ with a left-footed hit from the edge of the box.
Kennahz Fray converted a penalty kick in the 71’ to cut the deficit for Bermuda.
Ortela caused another own goal in the 88’, coming off a mishit inside the box from Dakari Smith Davis.
Taysison Bregita opened his account in the 90’+5, pouncing on a rebound off the crossbar from an Arynel Jops attempt, closing an effective night for Curaçao.
Group B
British Virgin Islands 4, Sint Maarten 0
The British Virgin Islands won 4-nil against Sint Maarten to kick off its campaign in Group B at Estadio Nacional in San José, Costa Rica.
Sam Sharma delivered the opening goal in the 34’, capitalizing on a BVI corner kick by striking off the half volley.
Latriel Williams extended the lead in the 62’ by pouncing on the ball inside the six-yard box.
Luca Stuttard struck in the 69’ and 73’ to secure a three-point start for the British Virgin Islands. His first goal came from a lethal left-footed strike outside the box in one of the goals of the day.
Trinidad and Tobago 1, Guyana 1
Trinidad and Tobago tied 1-1 against Guyana in Group B at Estadio Nacional in San José, Costa Rica.
Joshua Morris played Guyana in front in the 32’ with a strike inside the box to convert on a corner kick attempt.
Philip Nelson tied the encounter in the 54’, striking inside the box to complete a buildup from the Soca Warriors.
Group C
Belize 7, Dominica 0
Belize won 7-nil against Dominica in Group C at the Mexican Football Federation facilities in Toluca, Mexico.
D. Alessandro Valle opened the scoring in the 2’, converting from the penalty spot. Jahson Stanford extended the lead in the 15’ with a right-footed hit in the box after connecting on a ball over the top from Marlon Meza.
Valle completed his brace in the 24’ with a strike from just outside the penalty arc.
Marlon Meza penned his own name on the scoresheet in the 36’ and 46’. Stanford made it six for Belize with a strike off the volley in the 49’ on a cross from Meza.
Breyden Olivas opened his tally in the 79’ to put a bow on the three-point start for Belize.
Nicaragua 6, Barbados 0
Nicaragua won 6-nil against Barbados in Group C at the Mexican Football Federation facilities in Toluca, Mexico.
Juban Uriarte had a banner day with goals in the 32’, 40’, 53’, and 90’. His first two came in similar fashion, with long-range hits from the left side of midfield.
Yader Aviles added the second of the match in the 34’, connecting in front of goal with a service by Efraim Mejia.
Edwin Zepeda delivered a left-footed finish inside the box in the 70’ to etch his name on the scoresheet.
