Leicester City centre-back Harry Souttar will not be joining Leeds United this month despite recent links, according to Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett.

The Whites are currently in need of strengthening their defence.

They have some good options in midfield and plenty of firepower up top, with the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Dan James able to contribute from the wings.

Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow's presence means their goalkeeper department doesn't need to be looked at either, but their defence is a clear weak point, with a real lack of depth at full-back.

Thankfully for Daniel Farke, Burnley's Connor Roberts looks set to arrive at Elland Road, with the Welshman being a much-needed addition for the West Yorkshire side who have lost Luke Ayling and Djed Spence during this window.

However, their central defence may also benefit from being strengthened, especially if Charlie Cresswell seals a late-window move away from the club.

Considering the current lack of speculation about his future, it doesn't seem as though he will be moving on, but the likes of Souttar and Everton's Ben Godfrey have been linked with moves to Elland Road regardless of this.

There was previously talk about Leicester potentially needing to sanction exits before anyone arrived, potentially putting Souttar in contention to leave the King Power Stadium despite the fact he's at the Asia Cup.

With the Australia international failing to win many appearances this term, that has only increased speculation about his future.

But it doesn't seem as though a departure is needed before Stefano Sensi's move from Inter Milan is complete.

That could mean Souttar stays for the remainder of the season, with the Foxes refusing to sanction a move to Elland Road for the defender due to the fact they don't want to strengthen a promotion rival.

Everton and Sheffield United have also been linked with moves for him though, so this is a saga to keep an eye on.

Strengthening a promotion rival wouldn't be a good idea.

And that's exactly what Leicester would be doing if Souttar made the move to Elland Road.

There's a chance he wouldn't start every week with Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk at the club - but that wouldn't help the Foxes to potentially sell him on for a high amount in the future.

This move wouldn't have made sense, but if he can secure a move to the Premier League for the remainder of the season and play regularly, that could help Leicester to either cash in on him for a sizeable fee or potentially include him in their plans for next season.

Leeds will be gutted to miss out on him, but they surely would have been expecting a no from Enzo Maresca's side considering where the pair are in the table.
