In a recent print edition, Sport offered an update on Arsenal and their pursuit of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi. It has been claimed that the Spanish midfield ace is tempted to seal a move to the Premier League amid interest from the Gunners ahead of the summer transfer window.

Zubimendi is enjoying a solid campaign at the Spanish club as he has been responsible for putting in a series of impressive displays for them in La Liga. The Spanish talent has been involved in 45 matches for Real Sociedad this season, netting four goals and picking up one assist across all fronts.

The 25-year-old has offered decent protection for his teammates at the back based on his average of 1.6 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 1.7 clearances per game in La Liga. He has also been tidy when distributing the ball from midfield after making 86.4% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

Zubimendi is under contract at the Spanish club until the summer of 2027. Therefore, it won’t be easy for the Gunners to sign him on the cheap at the end of this season.

Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Bring Zubimendi On Board?

Zubimendi loves a tackle and can scan the danger well to make some timely interceptions for his side at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and is a tidy passer of the ball as well.

The Spanish sensation mainly operates as a defensive midfielder but can also play as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so. We can expect him to bring more bite and steel to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta‘s midfield department if he can make a smooth transition to life in England.

Zubimendi is good enough to help the Gunners compete for some major honours over the next few years. At 25, he has his best years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for Arsenal to pursue later this summer. All in all, the North London giants would be wise to bring Zubimendi on board in the upcoming transfer window.
