United States: Georgie Minougou lifts the League Cup in front of Messi

On the night of August 31, Seattle Sounders, featuring Burkina Faso international Georgie Minougou, triumphed over Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami (3-0) in the League Cup final in the United States.

The result was emphatic: 3-0. The Seattle Sounders completely dominated the fifth League Cup final against Inter Miami, led by the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi.

With this achievement, Seattle Sounders not only claimed their first-ever League Cup title but also became the first team in Major League Soccer (MLS) history to win every major domestic trophy: the U.S. Open Cup, MLS Cup, CONCACAF Champions League, and the Supporters' Shield.

The three goals in the final, played at Lumen Field in Seattle before a record crowd, came from Osaze De Rosario (26th minute), Alex Roldan (84th), and Paul Rothrock (84th).

Burkinabé winger Georgie Minougou entered the match in the 78th minute and made an immediate impact. He sparked the attack that led to the penalty converted by Alex Roldan in the 84th minute. That penalty extended the Sounders’ lead from 1-0 to 2-0—a decisive moment that crushed Inter Miami’s hopes of a comeback.

With this, the Burkinabé winger secures the first major trophy of his professional career. Born in Ivory Coast, he signed with Seattle Sounders in 2024 on a contract running through 2028 with an option for an additional year. Georgie Minougou was first called up to the Burkina Faso national team on August 28, 2025, and could make his debut against Djibouti on September 5 in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
