Everton maintained their unbeaten run to six games in the Premier League after they drew 2-2 against Manchester United at Goodison Park.
The Toffees took a two-goal lead in the first half, with goals coming from Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure.
In the second half, United staged a dramatic comeback and levelled the tie through goals from Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte.
Everton were awarded a late penalty after Ashley Young went down, but the decision didn’t stand after a thorough VAR check. David Moyes was very disappointed with the role of the VAR after the game.
There have been some brilliant performances from Everton players, and one of them who caught the attention was Jarrad Branthwaite.
The 22-year-old defender was a “defensive colossus”, and the Liverpool Echo gave him an 8/10 rating for his performance.
The newspaper also gave 8/10 ratings to James Garner and Doucoure as well.
The newspaper wrote about Branthwaite: “A defensive colossus for the most part and imperious in the air – his back header to Pickford was an outrageous piece of skill – he looked up for this one after his disappointment in the corresponding fixture at Old Trafford.”
Branthwaite struggled with injuries at times during the season, while Sean Dyche often kept him out of the side, favouring Michael Keane ahead of him.
He has made 19 Premier League appearances this season and has looked like he is returning to his old best under David Moyes.
Against United, he made six clearances, two tackles, one interception, blocked two efforts and won 7/8 duels, to cap off a terrific defensive performance.
