Ronald Koeman’s side changed their previous match formation of 4-4-2 and lined up in a 3-5-2 formation with new signings Garcia, Depay and Luuk de Jong making their Champions League debuts for the club. Sergi Roberto and Alba were the two wing-backs with Pique being the most senior defender and player in the team.

Barcelona were playing deeper in the match. The position of the two strikers is very deep and have dropped a lot towards midfield. Later on, the left-sided centre back Eric Garcia was substituted, and it looks like Barca played with four at the back during the end of the match.

18-year-old Jamal Musiala started the Champions League opener for the German champions. Upamecano made his UCL debut for the club, and the team lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Lewandowski was supported by Muller, Sane and Musiala in attack. Musiala was replaced by Gnabry on the right side and Coman replaced Sane on the left. Coman played in a more advanced position on the left.

Bayern team dominated the match when we look at their stats in the above viz. The team had an XG of 3.45 and created a lot of positional attacks in the match. The possession count was almost equal for both teams in the match.
