UEFA’s Executive Committee has announced plans to reshape the women’s continental game.
Among the biggest decisions reached in Hamburg on Saturday was the approval of a new format for the Women’s Champions League.
It will now consist of an 18-team league phase with clubs contesting three home and three away fixtures followed by the traditional knockout phase.
In addition, a second European competition for women’s clubs will also be created, akin to the Europa League that exists in the men’s game.
Those changes will come into effect for the start of the 2025/26 season.
More details on the format, qualification and calendar will be announced by UEFA on Monday.
